A Wake-Up Call From a Marketing Meeting
I thought I had made great progress on my 2009 goals—until I met with a Marketing Consultant this past Friday.
My intention was simple: get help creating marketing materials for a business folder I designed last year.
But what I thought would be a quick design meeting turned into a much-needed reality check.
The Big Question: What Are Your Goals?
When Kim asked me a seemingly simple question—“What are your goals?”—it became painfully clear:
I had not spent enough time clearly defining them.
That meeting exposed some important gaps in my goal-setting process, and I want to share a few key lessons with you.
3 Things I Discovered About My Goals
1. “Right Away” Isn’t a Business Strategy
I hadn’t determined how quickly I wanted my business to become realistically profitable.
My go-to response of “Right away!” might sound ambitious—but in truth, it wasn’t helpful.
Goals need to be measurable, specific, and grounded in reality.
2. I Lost Sight of My “Why”
I hadn’t revisited the reason I started The Christopher Quinn Group (CQG) in the first place.
Keeping your why visible is critical—it becomes your internal compass.
It helps you say “yes” to aligned opportunities and “no” to distractions that don’t serve your mission.
3. Vision Without Communication Is Incomplete
Even though I knew the vision of CQG in my own mind,
I hadn’t clearly communicated it to anyone else.
If your vision isn’t shared, how can others help you bring it to life?
Whether it’s clients, partners, or team members—clarity fuels alignment.
Time for a Goal Check
Now it’s your turn:
-
Have you defined your goals in clear, actionable terms?
-
Are you revisiting your “why” regularly?
-
Is your vision shared with those who can help you grow?
Check your goals. Are you on target?
Let this be your reminder to pause, reflect, and realign before moving forward.
